Picatinny rail strips can be added to a KeyMod rail to facilitate the use of Picatinny accessories that still dominate the market. KeyMod bases itself on the concept of “Negative Space” mounting where accessories are directly mounted to handguard verses relying on an intermediary interface like the rail slots like on Picatinny. Its name derives from it’s key shaped mounting holes and a reference to it’s modularity.
